Tour 03 · Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area
The canyon hiding behind the casinos.
Thirty minutes west of the Strip, the Mojave stands up: 3,000-foot banded cliffs, a winding scenic drive with pull-over views the whole way, and sandstone you can climb on if your knees agree. I drive, I guide, and I know where the light is best.
The Day
A slow loop through fast scenery.
Your day begins with pickup at your residence at 7:30 AM. The ride west takes about 30 minutes, and then the city is simply gone.
Red Rock Canyon runs on a paved 13-mile scenic road that winds through the park with pull-outs at every view worth having. I stop wherever the light and the crowd cooperate: stunning overlooks, short walks to the formations, and time to climb on the rock if you're comfortable doing so. Four to five hours is the average day in the park, and the visitor center gift shop closes the loop.
2 to 4 guests.
Includes driver and guide, comfortable vehicle, water and snacks, pickup and return to your residence, and a map with facts brochure.
- Bring: sun lotion and a hat, always.
- If you plan to climb: bring gloves. The sandstone is grippy and it will sand your palms smooth without them.
